Phoenix is a French rock band formed in Versailles, France in 1999. The band consists of Thomas Mars (lead vocals), Deck d'Arcy (bass/keyboards), Christian Mazzalai (guitar) and Laurent Brancowitz (drums/percussion). The band has released six studio albums: United (2000), Alphabetical (2004), It's Never Been Like That (2006), Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix (2009), Bankrupt! (2013) and Ti Amo (2017). Phoenix rose to prominence in the early 2000s with their debut album, United. The singles "Too Young" and "If I Ever Feel Better" both charted in several countries, and the album was certified Gold in France. The band's second album, Alphabetical, was released in 2004 and entered the French albums chart at number one. It also saw the release of the singles "Everything Is Everything" and "Run Run Run". 2006's It's Never Been Like That was another commercial success for the band, spawning the singles "Long Distance Call", "Consolation Prizes" and "Rome". Phoenix reached new heights with their fourth album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, which won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards. The album saw the release of the singles "1901" and "Lisztomania", which both charted in several countries. 2013's Bankrupt! was another critical and commercial success, reaching number two in France and spawning the singles "Entertainment" and "Trying to Be Cool". The band's most recent album, Ti Amo, was released in 2017 and reached number one in France. It also saw the release of the single "J-Boy". Phoenix is one of the most successful French bands of all time, selling over five million albums worldwide. They have been nominated for seven Grammy Awards and won one for Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. They have also won two Brit Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards and six NRJ Music Awards. In 2010, they were ranked number91 on NME's "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time" list. In 2013, Rolling Stone ranked them number76 on their "100 Greatest Artists of All Time" list. Their songs feature heavily in film, television & media, with "1901", "Lisztomania" and "Too Young", being their most prominent tracks. They have featured in titles such as "Boyhood" (2014), "The Vampire Diaries" (2009), "Gossip Girl" (2007), "Lost in Translation" (2014), "Maid" (2021) and many more.
