AboutThe artist

Gloria Gaynor is one of the most successful disco artists of all time. She is best known for her hit song "I Will Survive," which became an anthem for the gay community. Gaynor began her career in the early 1970s when she signed with MGM Records. She released her debut album, Gloria Gaynor, in 1974. The album's lead single, "Honey Bee", was a moderate hit, but it was her second single, "Never Can Say Goodbye" in 1975, that gave her mainstream success. The song peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Gaynor's follow-up album, Love Tracks, was released in 1978 and featured her biggest hit to date, "I Will Survive". The song was originally written as a ballad, but Gaynor's producer suggested that she turn it into a disco song. The song became an instant classic and has since been covered by numerous artists. In the 1980s, Gaynor began experimenting with other genres of music, including gospel and R&B. She also appeared on Broadway, in the musical Grease. Gaynor's popularity continued well into the 1990s and she has continued to release new music and tour throughout the world. Gaynor is a proud advocate for LGBT rights and has been honored by numerous organizations for her work. In 2015, she was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame. Gaynor's music has influenced many artists, including Madonna, Beyonce, and Lady Gaga. Her disco hits are still popular today and continue to be played at clubs and parties around the world. Thanks to her timeless music, Gloria Gaynor will always be remembered as the Queen of Disco.
