Timon and Pumbaa distract the hyenas with a rendition of "Be Our Guest" from "Beauty and the Beast" while Simba, Nala and Zazu sneak past them at Pride Rock.
While out on a musical walk with Timon, Pumbaa is chased by a hungry lioness who is prowling around and tries to eat him.
Meanwhile, Scar visits Shenzi, Kamari and Azizi. Determined to usurp the throne and lusting for the position as king, he devises a plan to kill Mufasa which he sings to them about, convincing them to help him overthrow his brother in exchange for hunting rights in the Pride Lands with a promise that they'll have food to end their hunger along with the rest of their fellow hyenas in return for their assistance in participating in his plot which will thwart the line of succession.
They reunite and are happy to be together again, but Timon is jealous after Simba and Nala leave and fall in love with each other.
Simba invites Nala, his best friend and the daughter of Sarafina, her mother and Sarabi's friend, (whom he is betrothed to from when they were born or younger infants by their parents) and often accompanied with on his adventures throughout the Pride Lands, to visit the elephant graveyard with him despite Mufasa's orders. They hatch a plan to distract Zazu who is sent to babysit them by performing a song to enunciate on Simba's desires to become king.
In the Pride Lands of Tanzania, a pride of lions rule over a large swath of African savanna which they oversee as their "kingdom" with Mufasa, a wise and benevolent lion who is their leader, watching over it and the other animals as "king". As the sun rises over the Pride Lands, a large crowd of animals awaken from their slumber and begin to journey across the landscape and gather at the foot of Pride Rock to commemorate the birth of Simba, the newborn son of Mufasa and Sarabi, his mate and the leader of the lioness hunting party who serves as the queen of Pride Rock. Rafiki, a wise and old West Africa-accented mandrill with an unnatural long tail who lives in a baobab tree and serves as the kingdom's shaman and advisor by performing his shamanistic services for the lions and presenting the newborn lion cubs of the king and queen to the animals, arrives to warmly greet Mufasa and Sarabi and performs Simba's presentation ceremony with a blessing. He lifts the cub over his shoulder and carries him out onto the promontory of Pride Rock, then introduces him to the expectant crowd who wait below by standing towards the edge and lifting the new prince high into the air above his citizens' heads while Mufasa and Sarabi observe from behind them and the throng of animals triumphantly rejoice at the sight of Simba.
End Credits
At first, Simba is unsure about Timon and Pumbaa's philosophy, but they explain to him about moving forward from the past and forgetting its worries, providing Pumbaa's backstory which explains that he was ostracized from the animal society for his excessive flatulence. As the song progresses on, Simba eventually grows up into a young adult lion who vaguely resembles his late father with his two new best friends and adoptive parents in the oasis.
Realizing that he can no longer run away from his past, Simba decides to return to the Pride Lands, reconcile with his childhood trauma and challenge Scar to end his tyranny as Nala, Timon and Pumbaa accompany him.
