The songs fall into two categories: screeching voices/background music, and the major pieces, which are all musical and inventive, just like the movie (You Took Advantage of Me, I'm Falling, Number One, Everybody Wants to Rule the World). Some pieces were edited down to the best parts. This is a creative soundtrack, that (along with great writing, sound fx, and sets) did much to make this movie a hidden gem that captures what it was like to grow up and work in high tech in the early 80s: arrogant teachers, dangerous agencies, the high tech itself, the nurturing school environment, and the peculiar and remarkable students who had such fun and created such successful projects, while learning about life.
